Application for positions in SAP HCM

The maintenance of the SAP organization management is typically organized very centrally. As a rule, the sovereignty lies with a few people in the Human Resources department. Especially with intensive use, this is of crucial importance for the data quality. However, the 'pre-processes' that lead to a change in SAP OM are mapped incompletely or not at all in SAP HCM.

This article presents an example scenario for applying for new positions and how it was implemented by LM Consulting.

Application / Scenario

The application maps the application process for new positions within SAP HCM. In addition to clearly defined groups, individual people are involved in the process, who can be integrated into the process at any time by HR Controlling. The process flow is not rigid, but can be controlled individually by HR Controlling (multiple queries, obtaining further statements, rejection of an application, forwarding the application for approval, etc.).
In addition to the description of the application in the form of structured fields and free text, all communication between those involved in the process takes place within the application (replacement of e-mail) and is therefore transparent for all those involved in the process.

Description of the groups involved and their tasks:

Implementation

The implementation is technically based on SAP web dynpro for ABAP.
In order to be able to design the process flexibly, the use of the SAP workflow was deliberately avoided. Instead, there is a separate application for each group that selects data based on the status and defines subsequent steps. This makes it easier to implement and expand group-specific functions on the one hand and to integrate new groups into the process on the other in the future.
The application is made available to users either through the SAP portal or the NWBC.
