SAP Litmos and SuccessFactors LMS Part 1: Basics and the differences

SAP acquired SuccessFactors in 2011 to provide customers with high quality SAP HCM solutions. The Human Capital Management strategy has evolved into Human Experience Management, and the Learning Journey is part of this strategy.

Litmos was founded in 2007 as a learning solution for users of various human capital management software systems, including SAP customers. In 2011, Litmos was acquired by Callidus Cloud. When SAP completed the acquisition of Callidus Cloud, Litmos became part of SAP.

What are the differences and similarities between SAP SuccessFactors LMS and SAP Litmos

The SAP SuccessFactors Learning Management System (LMS) is very tightly integrated into the SuccessFactors Suite. It is integrated with Employee Central, Performance & Goal Management, as well as with SAP Jam.

SAP Litmos can be more easily integrated with other HR systems. So, SAP Litmos has great flexibility to integrate with third-party HR solutions than does SAP SuccessFactors LMS.

Another key difference is that SAP Litmos offers ready-made courses for employees, while SAP SuccessFactors leaves the content components, the so-called content and the integration of this to the respective user. However, the SAP SuccessFactors LMS allows you to import your own content into the system. However, this requires the creation or purchase of content. Litmos provides a lot of ready-made content available within its platform.

Furthermore, SAP Litmos has more gamification capabilities than SAP SuccessFactors LMS. SAP Litmos offers both tracking as well as engagement through gamification features. What this means exactly, we reveal in the next chapter. SuccessFactors LMS has an internal gamification function and displays the achievements. With this feature, employees can track learning by category and measure the time spent on the learning content. In addition, learning goals can be set for a specific period of time. In case companies need a full gamification capability, SuccessFactors Learning offers an integration option with third-party providers such as Bunchball.

The first similarity between SAP Litmos and the SuccessFactors LMS is that both are cloud learning solutions. The second similarity is that both allow content to be stored in the cloud and made available to users with reports and user management features. Both systems enable extensive administration of training courses, e.g. booking tracking, follow-up of training courses, replacement lists, etc.
